Job Summary
A leading engineering company is seeking an experienced Testing & Commissioning Engineer in Saudi Arabia to support electrical substation projects, protection systems, and power infrastructure installations. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and witnessing testing and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, electrical safety standards, and quality requirements.
This opportunity is suitable for electrical engineering professionals with 3 to 10 years of experience in substation testing, protection relays, and electrical commissioning. Candidates should have practical knowledge of switchgear, transformers, Substation Automation Systems (SAS), and electrical fault analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Testing and Commissioning Activities
- Witness, supervise, and support electrical testing and commissioning activities at project sites.
- Verify that all testing procedures comply with approved project specifications, technical standards, and commissioning plans.
- Inspect substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and associated electrical systems.
- Perform and witness functional testing of electrical equipment before energization and operational handover.
Protection Relays and Automation Systems
- Configure, test, and verify protection relays, including relay logic, settings, and functional operations.
- Support the testing and commissioning of Substation Automation Systems (SAS).
- Verify communication, control, monitoring, and protection functions within substation systems.
- Apply knowledge of IEC 61850 communication protocols where required.
- Analyze electrical faults by reviewing event records, disturbance records, and relay operation data.
Safety and Quality Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with electrical safety procedures and site-specific health and safety requirements.
- Identify technical issues, testing discrepancies, and non-conformities during commissioning activities.
- Coordinate with project teams to resolve technical problems and maintain commissioning quality standards.
- Ensure all testing and commissioning work follows approved procedures and relevant electrical standards.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain Commissioning System Documentation (CSD) and organized project records.
- Prepare commissioning reports, test results, inspection records, and technical issue logs.
- Document faults, troubleshooting activities, corrective actions, and testing outcomes.
- Support final documentation handover and ensure all commissioning records meet project requirements.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, engineers, clients, and other site representatives.
- Monitor commissioning progress and communicate technical challenges to the relevant stakeholders.
- Support the successful completion and handover of electrical substation and power infrastructure projects.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 3–10 years of relevant experience in electrical Testing & Commissioning.
- Practical experience with electrical substations, power systems, and protection equipment.
- Strong knowledge of protection relay testing, configuration, and functional verification.
- Experience with transformers, switchgear, and other substation equipment.
- Familiarity with Substation Automation Systems (SAS); knowledge of IEC 61850 is an advantage.
- Ability to interpret electrical fault records, event logs, and disturbance analysis reports.
- Good understanding of electrical safety procedures, commissioning standards, and quality requirements.
- Experience in utility, power transmission, substation, or large-scale infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Previous experience in Middle East projects is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and coordination skills.
