The Technician – DC Automation will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting automated warehouse and distribution center systems. The role focuses on ensuring reliable operation of conveyors, sortation systems, automated storage and retrieval systems, pick-and-pack equipment, PLC-based controls, and other industrial automation technologies.
The technician will work closely with warehouse operations and technical teams to reduce equipment downtime, resolve automation faults, maintain safety standards, and support continuous improvements in warehouse efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform preventive, corrective, and routine maintenance on automated warehouse and distribution center equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot conveyors, sorters, pick-and-pack stations, ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems), and PLC-controlled automation systems.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control-system faults to minimize equipment downtime.
- Troubleshoot PLC-related issues and support the identification of automation system faults.
- Inspect and calibrate sensors, actuators, switches, and electrical components according to operational and maintenance requirements.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and support corrective actions to improve system reliability.
- Respond to automation breakdowns and technical issues in a timely manner.
Warehouse Automation Support
- Work closely with warehouse and operations teams to resolve automation-related disruptions and maintain smooth workflow.
- Provide technical support during equipment breakdowns, system interruptions, and operational issues.
- Monitor the performance and condition of automated equipment.
- Maintain maintenance logs and record completed work, faults, interventions, and corrective actions in accordance with established SOPs.
- Support technical teams during equipment testing, commissioning, modifications, and system improvements when required.
Safety and System Compliance
- Ensure automation equipment is operated and maintained according to HSE, workplace safety, and operational procedures.
- Conduct regular equipment inspections and identify potential hazards, component failures, or unsafe operating conditions.
- Report defective equipment, safety concerns, and technical issues to the appropriate team.
- Follow approved maintenance procedures and safe working practices when working with electrical, mechanical, and automated systems.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve equipment uptime, reliability, safety, and warehouse productivity.
Documentation and Technical Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, spare parts used, equipment faults, repairs, and system modifications.
- Prepare technical reports and maintenance updates for recurring automation issues.
- Analyze repeated equipment failures and provide technical feedback to support reliability improvements.
- Assist with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring mechanical, electrical, and automation problems.
- Support Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) initiatives and follow through on assigned improvement actions.
- Keep maintenance documentation and system records accurate and up to date.
Desired Experience and Skills
- 3–5 years of experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of warehouse automation systems, industrial equipment, material-handling systems, or related environments.
- Practical knowledge of electrical systems, control panels, PLC diagnostics, sensors, actuators, and mechanical drive systems.
- Experience maintaining conveyors, sortation systems, automated storage systems, or other distribution-center automation equipment.
- Knowledge of PLC-based automation systems and basic industrial control troubleshooting.
- Experience with HMI interfaces and WMS-integrated automation systems is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, technical documentation, and equipment manuals.
- Basic IT skills for system diagnostics, maintenance tracking, equipment updates, and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Good understanding of workplace safety and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively with warehouse operations, engineering, maintenance, and technical teams.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to respond effectively to equipment breakdowns and operational priorities.
