Job Overview

The Technical Support Engineer serves as the dealership’s senior technical resource for complex vehicle diagnostics, warranty escalations, and technical coordination with the OEM.

The position provides advanced technical support to Workshop Supervisors and Technicians, helping resolve difficult, recurring, and high-priority vehicle faults through systematic diagnosis and root cause analysis. The Technical Support Engineer ensures repair and diagnostic procedures follow OEM standards while supporting accurate technical reporting, warranty compliance, recall campaigns, and field actions.

The role also contributes to workshop capability development by coaching technicians, sharing technical knowledge, supporting new vehicle technologies, and driving continuous improvement across aftersales operations.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Diagnostics & Technical Support

  • Lead the diagnosis and resolution of complex, recurring, and high-priority technical problems escalated by the workshop.
  • Use structured diagnostic methods, advanced scan tools, OEM platforms, and technical documentation to identify vehicle faults.
  • Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions to prevent repeat repairs and customer comebacks.
  • Prepare detailed technical case reports covering diagnostic procedures, findings, root causes, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
  • Provide technical guidance to Workshop Supervisors and Technicians during complex repair activities.

OEM Technical Coordination

  • Serve as the main technical point of contact between the dealership and OEM or Principal technical support teams.
  • Coordinate recall campaigns, Special Service Campaigns (SSCs), and other manufacturer field actions from identification through completion.
  • Prepare and submit Technical Reports, Product Quality Reports (PQRs), and warranty escalation cases according to OEM procedures.
  • Monitor and communicate OEM technical updates, service bulletins, repair instructions, and field actions to relevant workshop personnel.
  • Ensure technical cases and OEM requests are handled accurately and within required timelines.

Technician Training & Capability Development

  • Coach Technicians and Electrical Technicians on advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, diagnostic strategies, and emerging automotive technologies.
  • Conduct technical training sessions, workshops, and toolbox talks to improve workshop knowledge and technical capability.
  • Work with Technical Trainers to identify skill gaps and support structured technician development programs.
  • Develop and maintain a technical knowledge base covering common faults, diagnostic methods, repair solutions, and OEM updates.
  • Encourage consistent application of OEM diagnostic and repair procedures across the workshop.

Quality, Warranty & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure diagnostic and repair activities comply with OEM technical standards and support successful warranty claim processing.
  • Maintain technical documentation and records to support warranty audits and compliance requirements.
  • Analyze workshop indicators such as comeback rates, First Time Right (FTR), and warranty claims to identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead initiatives designed to reduce repeat repairs, improve diagnostic accuracy, and increase workshop efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement activities aligned with dealership quality and aftersales objectives.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • OEM Master Technician certification or an equivalent advanced technical qualification is highly preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in a franchised automotive dealership workshop.
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex vehicle diagnostics and advanced technical problems.
  • Previous experience coordinating directly with OEM technical teams, warranty departments, or technical support functions.
  • Strong experience with EVs, hybrid vehicles, ADAS, and modern automotive electronic systems is essential.

Technical Skills

  • Expert knowledge of OEM diagnostic platforms, advanced scan tools, and oscilloscope-based diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle systems, including powertrain, chassis, body electronics, and high-voltage (HV) systems.
  • Ability to perform detailed root cause analysis and prepare structured technical reports.
  • Working knowledge of Dealer Management Systems (DMS), warranty platforms, OEM portals, and technical reference systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for technical reporting, data analysis, and presentations.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and technical problem-solving skills.
