This position requires in-depth knowledge of construction activities, project management, and associated risks, as well as the ability to translate complex technical findings into understandable business terms for management. The Specialist will independently or collaboratively execute audits across various functions such as quality control, procurement, engineering, and compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Group Chief Audit Officer (GCAO) and Group Audit Manager to create and implement a risk-based internal audit plan, supporting risk assessments and developing risk registers.
- Conduct audits aligned with the Internal Audit Plan to ensure compliance with company objectives and audit charter goals.
- Led and introduced the concept of various audits, including Technical Audits, QA/QC Audits, Closeout Audits, Cost Saving Audits, and surprise quality and HSE inspections.
- Review construction claims such as Extensions of Time (EOT) and Variation Orders.
- Perform detailed audits for projects, documenting and communicating audit findings and ensuring agreement with the auditees.
- Identify and propose opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of construction operations.
- Conducted surprise site visits and provided reports within one working day.
- Develop audit work programs that evaluate construction operations, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and regulatory standards.
- Prepare clear, concise, and structured audit reports, providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain clear audit documentation, ensuring support for all findings and compliance with retention policies.
- Review and guide team members’ work, ensuring thorough coverage of audit areas.
- Conduct follow-up reviews to ensure timely corrective actions are taken and report unresolved issues to management.
- Assist in investigations related to allegations of misconduct, fraud, or conflicts of interest.
- Communicate effectively with business unit management throughout the audit process, including scheduling, conducting meetings, and leading entrance and exit conferences.
- Build positive relationships with business units and stay informed about their operations.
- Support the GCAO and Group Audit Manager in achieving departmental goals and KPIs.
- Handle ad-hoc assignments as directed by the GCAO.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil) from an accredited institution.
- Internationally recognized auditing certifications such as CIA, CRMA, CCSA, or equivalent.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years in internal audit, construction, engineering, or estimating, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience in a multi-divisional group or MNC.
- Expertise in construction processes, project controls, procurement, cost control, and budget management.
- Knowledge of construction contracts, HSE protocols, quality assurance, and commercial terms.
- Proficient in IFRS and construction industry reporting standards.
- Familiarity with GAAP, IIA’s ISPPIA, COSO framework, or similar auditing frameworks.
- Strong understanding of risks and controls in financial, operational, and compliance audits.
- Proven track record in managing multiple audits simultaneously and delivering quality results on time.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to drive successful outcomes.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Power BI or similar data analytics tools.
- Proficiency in Audit Management Software (AMS), such as Teammate or MetricStream.
- Experience with “Big 4” audit firms is a plus.
