Role Purpose
The Store Keeper is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the store, including receiving, inspecting, storing, organizing, and issuing materials, products, tools, and equipment. The role ensures that inventory is properly maintained, accurately recorded, and readily available to support smooth business and operational activities.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Receive incoming materials, products, equipment, and supplies and verify them against purchase orders and delivery documents.
- Inspect received items for quantity, quality, and any visible damage or discrepancies.
- Store materials safely and systematically according to company procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of stock receipts, issues, transfers, and returns.
- Issue materials and supplies to authorized departments based on approved requests.
- Monitor inventory levels and inform supervisors when stock needs to be replenished.
- Conduct regular physical stock checks and assist with periodic inventory counts.
- Keep the store area clean, organized, secure, and compliant with workplace safety requirements.
- Properly label and arrange stock to ensure easy identification and efficient retrieval.
- Maintain appropriate storage conditions for different types of materials and products.
- Report damaged, missing, expired, or slow-moving stock to the relevant supervisor.
- Coordinate with procurement, warehouse, logistics, and other departments regarding material requirements.
- Ensure all storekeeping activities are carried out according to company policies and procedures.
- Support the preparation of inventory reports and maintain proper documentation.
- Follow health, safety, and security guidelines while handling and storing materials.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Previous experience as a Store Keeper, Storekeeper, Warehouse Assistant, or Inventory Assistant is preferred.
- Good knowledge of storekeeping, inventory control, and material handling procedures.
- Ability to receive, inspect, organize, store, and issue materials accurately.
- Basic knowledge of inventory records, stock documentation, and warehouse procedures.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling stock records.
- Ability to identify stock discrepancies and report issues promptly.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with inventory or warehouse management systems are an advantage.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy warehouse or store environment.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures is preferred.
- Ability to follow company policies, instructions, and established storekeeping procedures.
