Mechanical Engineer – Role Overview

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supervising site teams and the drafting department, ensuring that all mechanical works are carried out in line with project objectives. This role may involve handling one or multiple projects, managing resources, maintaining quality and safety standards, and coordinating with stakeholders to deliver projects efficiently and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Review and validate mechanical designs, calculations, and technical submissions.
  • Analyze project scope, specifications, and documents to identify value engineering opportunities and potential risks.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Plan and allocate resources effectively, working closely with Junior Engineers and Supervisors.
  • Track project progress and productivity, implementing corrective actions when required.
  • Oversee installation and construction activities, ensuring high-quality workmanship.
  • Optimize the use of plant and equipment and coordinate with local authorities when necessary.

Cost Management

  • Work with Quantity Surveyors to capture variations and document delays for claims.
  • Recommend value engineering solutions to improve cost efficiency and profitability.
  • Aim to enhance overall project profit margins.
  • Monitor variation claims relative to project value and ensure approvals align with projections.

Engineering

  • Manage the submission and approval of shop drawings with the engineering and drafting teams.
  • Oversee procurement processes, including supplier and material approvals.
  • Resolve technical challenges to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to verify equipment loads and address design changes.
  • Liaise with authorities to obtain approvals and stay updated on regulations.

Quality & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, procedures, and documentation practices.
  • Maintain a “Lessons Learned” register to capture and share project insights.
  • Prepare Method Statements in line with project specifications.
  • Ensure timely completion of project closeout documentation.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Enforce compliance with HSE policies across all project activities.
  • Report and assist in the investigation of incidents and injuries.
  • Participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Ensure Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) are completed where required.
  • Maintain a zero-accident and zero-LTI (Lost Time Injury) work environment.

Required Skills

  • Strong expertise in mechanical design and engineering calculations.
  • Effective project management and planning capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Ability to identify and implement value engineering opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2–5 years of experience in MEP contracting, with at least 3 years in the UAE.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design, project planning, and cost control.
  • Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, and Primavera.
