About the Role
The Senior Governance, Risk & Compliance Specialist will be responsible for supporting and overseeing corporate governance and regulatory compliance activities.
The role involves working closely with senior management, internal stakeholders, regulators, branches, and subsidiaries to ensure business activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, governance standards, and internal policies.
The position also includes responsibility for supporting governance and compliance requirements for branches and subsidiaries operating outside the UAE.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Governance
- Develop, review, implement, and maintain corporate governance policies and frameworks across the organisation.
- Ensure governance practices are aligned with applicable UAE laws and regulatory requirements.
- Work with internal stakeholders to align governance structures with organisational objectives.
- Assess the effectiveness of existing governance processes and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare governance-related reports and updates for senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Keep informed about developments in UAE and international corporate governance practices.
- Support consistent governance standards across international branches and subsidiaries.
- Ensure overseas operations consider the relevant regulatory requirements applicable within their respective jurisdictions.
Regulatory Compliance
- Support compliance with applicable UAE insurance laws and healthcare-related regulatory requirements.
- Monitor requirements and guidance issued by relevant authorities, including CBUAE, SCA, DoH, and DHA.
- Support the organisation’s compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements and related regulatory obligations.
- Establish and maintain compliance monitoring processes.
- Identify potential compliance gaps and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
- Review regulatory developments and assess their potential impact on business operations.
Regulatory Coordination
The specialist will act as an important point of coordination between the organisation and relevant regulatory authorities.
Responsibilities may include:
- Supporting regulatory audits and inspections.
- Coordinating responses to regulatory enquiries.
- Preparing and reviewing information requested by regulators.
- Maintaining professional relationships with regulatory and industry bodies.
- Communicating regulatory changes to relevant business teams.
- Helping management understand new or evolving compliance obligations.
Compliance Training and Awareness
Develop and support internal compliance awareness initiatives to help employees understand their responsibilities.
This may include providing training and updates covering regulatory developments, governance requirements, AML obligations, internal policies, and other relevant compliance matters.
International Branches and Subsidiaries
Oversee and support governance and compliance frameworks for the company’s branches and subsidiaries outside the UAE.
The successful candidate will work with relevant teams to ensure overseas operations comply with applicable local regulations while remaining aligned with the organisation’s broader governance and compliance standards.
Experience Requirements
Candidates should have approximately 8–10 years of professional experience in Governance and Compliance, preferably with substantial experience within the UAE insurance industry.
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of UAE insurance regulations.
- Understanding of healthcare-related regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of corporate governance frameworks.
- Experience with compliance monitoring and regulatory reporting.
- Understanding of risk-management practices.
- Knowledge of AML requirements.
- Experience working with UAE regulatory authorities.
- Experience supporting governance, risk, or compliance activities for international operations.
Previous experience liaising with authorities such as CBUAE, SCA, DoH, and DHA is particularly relevant to this position.
Educational Qualifications
Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
A Master’s degree may be advantageous.
Relevant professional certifications in areas such as Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering, Risk Management, or Corporate Governance would also be beneficial.
