About the Role

The Operating Theatre Registered Nurse will support the delivery of safe and effective perioperative nursing care within a modern day surgery environment.

The successful candidate will assist with theatre preparation, patient care, surgical procedures, infection prevention, documentation, and post-procedure requirements.

Candidates who have experience working in both scrub and circulating nurse roles may be particularly well suited to this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

The nurse will be responsible for preparing operating theatres, surgical instruments, equipment, and required consumables before procedures.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing appropriate perioperative nursing care to patients.
  • Preparing the operating theatre before scheduled procedures.
  • Assisting surgeons and anaesthetists during operations.
  • Performing scrub and circulating nursing duties as required.
  • Maintaining sterile techniques and infection-control standards.
  • Completing patient assessments and clinical documentation.
  • Monitoring patients throughout the perioperative process.
  • Following surgical safety checklists and established clinical protocols.
  • Anticipating the requirements of surgeons and other theatre team members.
  • Supporting safe handling and availability of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Assisting with theatre stock, supplies, and equipment management.
  • Participating in clinical audits and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Following applicable DHA requirements and organisational patient-safety procedures.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should meet the professional and clinical requirements associated with the position.

Candidates are expected to have:

  • A valid DHA Registered Nurse licence.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or another recognised equivalent nursing qualification.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Operating Theatre experience.
  • Practical experience as a scrub nurse and/or circulating nurse.
  • Previous experience in an acute-care hospital, surgical centre, or day surgery facility.
  • Good knowledge of perioperative nursing practices.
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention and patient-safety procedures.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working with electronic medical record (EMR) and clinical documentation systems.

ACLS certification is preferred.

Preferred Experience

Additional consideration may be given to applicants who have experience supporting multiple surgical specialties, previous UAE healthcare experience, or experience working within a Day Surgery Centre.

Candidates who are competent in both scrub and circulating duties may also have an advantage.

Immediate availability may be beneficial depending on the organisation’s recruitment requirements.
