Job Overview

alfanar Building Systems is looking for an experienced Planning Engineer to support large-scale real estate and construction projects in Saudi Arabia. The role is responsible for project scheduling, progress monitoring, schedule analysis, resource planning, and management reporting across multiple ongoing projects.

The Planning Engineer will work closely with project managers, site teams, cost-control professionals, consultants, and client representatives to maintain reliable project schedules and provide accurate information for effective project decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Project Schedule Development

  • Develop, structure, and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Prepare schedules covering civil works, MEP activities, finishing, mobilization, testing, commissioning, and project handover.
  • Develop and maintain an effective Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for assigned projects.
  • Define activities, durations, relationships, dependencies, milestones, and scheduling logic.
  • Establish project baselines in accordance with the approved execution strategy.
  • Monitor baseline revisions and ensure all approved changes are properly documented and incorporated into project schedules.

Progress Monitoring & Reporting

  • Collect and verify actual progress information from site and project teams.
  • Update project schedules on a weekly or bi-weekly basis based on verified site progress.
  • Monitor planned versus actual performance and identify schedule deviations.
  • Prepare S-curves, look-ahead schedules, progress reports, resource histograms, and management dashboards.
  • Analyze schedule performance and identify activities affecting project completion.
  • Monitor the critical path and assess changes that could impact key project milestones.
  • Identify causes of delays and support the development of practical schedule recovery plans.

Earned Value & Project Controls

  • Monitor project performance using Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques.
  • Track key performance indicators including SPI, CPI, and forecast-at-completion trends.
  • Coordinate with cost-control teams to integrate cost and schedule information.
  • Maintain consistent project performance data and support the development of reliable project status reports.
  • Provide planning information required for project reviews, management decisions, and client reporting.

Project Coordination

  • Work closely with project managers, site engineers, construction teams, and client-side planners.
  • Participate in regular project progress meetings and provide updates on schedule performance.
  • Follow up on outstanding actions and monitor their impact on project delivery.
  • Coordinate with consultants and clients to ensure schedules and reporting formats meet project requirements.
  • Communicate schedule risks, delays, constraints, and required corrective actions to relevant stakeholders.

General Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned planning activities according to approved project schedules and organizational objectives.
  • Manage planning resources effectively to support timely and cost-efficient project delivery.
  • Prepare periodic reports detailing planned activities, actual progress, deviations, risks, and corrective actions.
  • Identify planning and operational issues and escalate complex matters to the appropriate management level.
  • Support continuous improvement of project planning, reporting, and scheduling processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and improved project-control systems.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, project requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Ensure assigned activities meet required quality, safety, environmental, and compliance standards.
  • Continue developing technical and professional skills relevant to project planning and project controls.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

Required Experience

  • 4–6 years of relevant experience in project planning, construction planning, scheduling, or project controls.
  • Experience with large-scale construction or real estate development projects is preferred.
  • Practical experience using Primavera P6 for project scheduling and progress monitoring is highly desirable.
