Main Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer will support day-to-day maintenance operations while developing practical knowledge of industrial machinery and mechanical systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist senior engineers and technicians with preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Support maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, power transmission systems and heavy-duty mechanical structures.
- Inspect machinery and help identify mechanical problems before they lead to major equipment failures.
- Assist in diagnosing issues such as bearing failures, hydraulic leaks, gearbox problems and other mechanical faults.
- Support troubleshooting activities for fixed industrial equipment as well as mobile heavy machinery.
- Participate in maintenance and reliability improvement projects.
- Assist with mechanical component upgrades and equipment modifications where required.
- Support lubrication and equipment care programs designed to improve machinery life and performance.
- Contribute to fabrication and mechanical modification activities.
- Follow approved maintenance procedures and engineering standards.
- Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance work and equipment history.
- Update relevant information in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Help monitor spare-parts requirements and maintenance-related documentation.
- Participate in technical and safety training programs.
- Work closely with engineers, technicians and other maintenance personnel to resolve equipment issues.
Preventive and Predictive Maintenance
A major part of this role involves learning how planned maintenance can reduce unexpected equipment breakdowns.
The engineer may assist with scheduled inspections, lubrication, component checks and other preventive maintenance activities.
The position may also provide exposure to predictive maintenance techniques such as vibration analysis, which can help maintenance teams identify developing mechanical problems before equipment fails.
Mechanical Troubleshooting
Candidates should have a basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and an interest in developing practical troubleshooting skills.
The role may involve identifying the causes of problems affecting:
- Bearings and rotating equipment
- Gearboxes and power transmission systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Pneumatic systems
- Conveyor equipment
- Mechanical components
- Heavy industrial machinery
Rather than focusing only on temporary repairs, the engineer should develop the ability to understand the root cause of equipment failures and support longer-term corrective solutions.
Safety Responsibilities
Safety is an important part of industrial maintenance work.
The selected candidate will be expected to follow company safety procedures and approved working practices while performing maintenance activities.
This includes understanding and following Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) requirements when working with machinery and equipment.
The engineer should maintain a safety-conscious approach and contribute positively to the organization’s workplace safety culture.
Required Qualification
Candidates should hold a:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
The position is suitable for candidates at the beginning of their engineering careers.
Experience Required
0–2 years of relevant work experience
Fresh graduates with suitable academic knowledge, technical interest and a willingness to gain hands-on industrial experience may also be considered.
Technical Knowledge
Candidates should have foundational knowledge in areas such as:
- Mechanical engineering principles
- Mechanical diagnostic systems
- Preventive maintenance
- Predictive maintenance
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Fluid mechanics
- Thermodynamics
- Dynamics
- Materials and mechanical components
- Power transmission systems
- Equipment troubleshooting
Basic familiarity with maintenance management systems and industrial equipment would also be useful.
Skills Required
Problem-Solving
The candidate should have an analytical approach to mechanical problems and an interest in identifying the underlying causes of equipment failures.
Practical Engineering Skills
A willingness to work directly with machinery, tools and maintenance teams is important. This is a practical engineering position that may involve significant exposure to shop-floor and industrial environments.
Communication and Teamwork
The Mechanical Engineer will work with technicians, engineers and other operational teams. Clear communication and the ability to collaborate effectively are therefore important.
Willingness to Learn
As this opportunity is suitable for fresh graduates and junior engineers, candidates should demonstrate an interest in learning new maintenance techniques and developing their engineering knowledge.
Adaptability
The candidate should be comfortable working across different industrial environments and managing multiple maintenance-related activities when required.
Who Can Apply?
This opportunity may be particularly relevant for:
