The successful candidate will ensure vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with international maritime regulations while managing maintenance budgets, technical projects, and vessel performance.


Key Responsibilities

Vessel Technical Management

  • Manage the technical operations of assigned offshore and marine vessels.
  • Monitor vessel maintenance programs to maximize reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Plan and coordinate routine maintenance, repairs, surveys, and dry-docking activities.
  • Ensure vessels comply with classification society requirements and statutory regulations.
  • Review vessel technical performance and recommend improvements where required.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, reports, and vessel documentation.

Maintenance & Engineering

  • Support the implementation of planned preventive maintenance programs.
  • Coordinate repair activities with approved service providers and shipyards.
  • Monitor maintenance costs and ensure projects remain within approved budgets.
  • Oversee maintenance of marine equipment including engines, cranes, winches, anchor handling systems, and other critical onboard machinery.
  • Assist with installation and certification of specialized equipment supplied by third-party contractors.
  • Ensure spare parts and essential technical supplies are available to support vessel operations.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with international maritime standards, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Support vessel inspections, audits, and certification activities.
  • Promote safe engineering practices and continuous operational improvement.
  • Work closely with vessel masters, chief engineers, and operational teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in risk management and quality assurance initiatives.

Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Support technical planning for vessel upgrades, repair projects, and dry-docking schedules.
  • Assist in preparing technical budgets, project estimates, and tender documentation.
  • Evaluate shipyards, contractors, and technical service providers.
  • Coordinate with purchasing teams to ensure timely procurement of technical equipment and materials.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments, clients, and external service providers regarding technical matters.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of marine engineering and vessel technical management.
  • Experience with Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS).
  • Understanding of offshore vessel maintenance and repair operations.
  • Knowledge of ISM Code, ISPS Code, and international maritime regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Project, and CAD software.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of shore-based experience in a Technical Superintendent or similar role, or 2–3 years of sailing experience as a Chief Engineer.
  • Experience working with offshore support vessels such as:
    • Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels
    • Platform Supply Vessels (PSV)
    • Offshore Supply Vessels
    • Dive Support Vessels
    • Construction Support Vessels
    • Offshore Tugs
  • Experience with Dynamic Positioning (DP) vessels is an advantage.
  • Valid STCW certification is preferred where applicable.
