Basic Function

Environmental Scientist will support the Division Manager to grow the business and deliver on the client contract requirements. Activities will include assisting with client scope definition, tendering, planning, design, engineering and execution of land projects. Shall maintain open and positive relationships with internal staff, clients, and external agents/authorities. Shall have track record with writing, delivering and coordinating Environmental Baseline Studies (EBS) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) activities.

Contribute to the successful completion of complex engineering projects by preparing projects, determining methodology, workflows and necessary agreements. Recommend facilities, personnel, and funds required for programs directly related to these projects and closely collaborate with clients and other professionals.

Work with external agents and laboratories to obtain sample results in a timely manner.

Manage sample results and maintain internal databases of information.

Have knowledge and practical experience of equipment uses and limitations etc.

Ensure environmental considerations, principles and regulatory requirements are embedded into their activities and deliverables.

Satisfy environmental approval processes and schedules.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

Administration

Adherence to Company and Departmental administration procedures.

Assist other members of staff as and when required.

Projects

Undertake and coordinate Environmental Baseline Studies (EBS).

Prepare Environmental Baseline Studies (EBS) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports.

Act as a point of contact and maintain a proactive approach with clients, regulators and other external agents.

Prepare ITT, select and manage external consultants and specialists to assist in the development, compilation, preparation, timely submission, presentation and revision (as required).

Ability to write accurate technical reports and represent Fugro at meetings, conferences etc.

Ability to use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software packages (e.g. ArcView).

Finances

Understanding of bid and project financials.

Awareness of deadlines and financial penalty clauses that may be in place.

Attention to detail.
MSc or BSc in Environmental Management / Ecology / Engineering sciences.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in land consultancy or similar role, more recently at a senior level.

Experience undertaking and coordinating EBS and ESIA within the region, preferably in Iraq, and internationally (preferably related to oil & gas industry).

Strong organizational skills and ability to work to strict deadlines.

Willingness to take part in environmental surveys.

Experience of working within environmental agencies/authorities.

Experience of gathering and handling environmental data.

Environmental survey experience.

Principal Working Relationships:

Division Manager, Business Line Manager, Tender Coordinators, Field staff.

Maintain positive and productive working relationships with clients, collaborating companies and contractors.

Qualifications Required:

Conversant with computer operation and a basic knowledge of application software.

English language.
