Job Overview
The Engineer – Testing & Commissioning will be responsible for supporting testing, inspection, commissioning, and pre-operational activities for power plants and electrical substations. The role involves conducting functional tests, troubleshooting technical issues, preparing test documentation, and coordinating commissioning activities to ensure electrical equipment and systems are ready for safe and reliable operation.
This opportunity is suitable for Electrical Engineering freshers and professionals with 0–2 years of experience who are interested in testing and commissioning careers in the power and energy sector in Saudi Arabia.
Key Responsibilities
Testing & Commissioning
- Perform testing and commissioning activities for power plants, substations, and associated electrical systems.
- Conduct functional testing in accordance with approved testing procedures and specified schemes.
- Test electrical substation equipment, including protection relays, switchgear, transformers, and related systems.
- Support site testing and commissioning activities during project execution.
- Coordinate testing activities during customer inspections and commissioning stages.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve technical issues encountered during testing and site commissioning.
- Follow approved procedures and safety requirements throughout all testing and commissioning activities.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare test reports for projects, newly installed equipment, and commissioning activities.
- Review, update, and correct testing and commissioning documentation when required.
- Record non-conformances, technical problems, troubleshooting activities, and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate testing records and ensure documentation is complete and properly organized.
- Prepare periodic reports covering testing progress, completed activities, and identified deviations.
Technical Support & Design Review
- Provide technical assistance during testing and commissioning activities.
- Review electrical design and engineering documents before their release to identify potential technical issues.
- Coordinate with relevant engineering and project teams to clarify testing requirements.
- Support the resolution of technical issues related to electrical equipment and commissioning procedures.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Support quality assurance activities associated with testing and commissioning.
- Identify opportunities for improving testing procedures, work processes, and documentation.
- Initiate corrective and preventive actions in coordination with the department manager.
- Maintain appropriate records of improvement initiatives and corrective actions.
- Ensure testing activities comply with applicable project quality requirements.
Team & Operational Responsibilities
- Assist in training and guiding junior team members and assigned subordinates.
- Provide technical direction and support to team members when required.
- Allocate assigned tasks effectively to support project testing and commissioning schedules.
- Promote teamwork and maintain effective coordination among project personnel.
- Complete planned activities within established schedules, cost requirements, and quality standards.
- Use available resources efficiently to achieve project objectives.
- Identify operational and technical problems and escalate complex issues to the appropriate management level.
Compliance & Safety
- Follow company policies, procedures, work instructions, and project requirements.
- Strictly comply with electrical safety procedures during testing and commissioning.
- Follow applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements at project sites.
- Ensure testing activities are performed using approved procedures and appropriate safety controls.
- Maintain a safe working environment throughout site commissioning and inspection activities.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience Required
- Fresher to 2 years of relevant experience (0–2 years).
- Candidates with academic or practical exposure to electrical testing, commissioning, substations, power plants, or electrical protection systems may be suitable.
