The Director – Safety will provide senior-level expertise in Safety, Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE), develop safety strategies and policies, oversee audits and compliance programs, and work with leadership teams to strengthen workplace safety and achieve a zero-harm safety culture.

This role is ideal for an experienced safety professional with strong leadership capabilities and extensive industrial safety management experience.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Strategy and Management

• Develop and implement the organization’s overall safety strategy, framework, policies, and programs.
• Align safety strategies with corporate ESG, sustainability, business objectives, and organizational values.
• Lead the implementation of safety plans across local and international sites.
• Provide expert safety advice and guidance to senior management and business leaders.
• Ensure safety strategies and programs comply with applicable legislation, regulations, and international standards.
• Support continuous improvement of safety systems through feedback from relevant authorities and stakeholders.

Leadership and Team Management

• Lead the safety function and ensure achievement of departmental objectives.
• Set measurable SMART KPIs and monitor individual and departmental performance.
• Develop, motivate, and support safety professionals and technical teams.
• Lead talent development and training initiatives within the safety function.
• Promote a strong safety culture based on organizational values, ethics, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure effective communication and implementation of safety initiatives.

Safety Governance

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive safety governance framework covering all operational areas.
• Establish and monitor safety policies, procedures, processes, systems, and controls.
• Ensure safety management systems are regularly reviewed, updated, and audited.
• Monitor changes in legislation and international safety standards and update procedures accordingly.
• Lead safety improvement projects across company sites.
• Conduct and oversee safety meetings, inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.

Site Safety Operations

• Provide leadership and direction for day-to-day safety operations across company sites.

• Take appropriate action to stop unsafe operations that may put employees or other stakeholders at risk.
• Identify opportunities to reduce workplace accidents, injuries, and safety risks.
• Lead investigations into serious and significant workplace incidents.
• Review accident, incident, and safety investigation reports.
• Analyze incident and accident statistics to identify trends and develop improvement plans.
• Conduct safety inspections and compliance audits.
• Provide safety advice and support to operational and area management teams.

Safety Training and Awareness

• Develop and manage comprehensive safety training programs for employees at different organizational levels.
• Ensure employees receive regular training on safety procedures, regulations, and international standards.
• Promote safety awareness through workshops, seminars, campaigns, and internal communication programs.
• Review existing safety training programs and recommend improvements where required.
• Support the development of a strong workplace safety culture.

International Safety Management

• Implement safety programs that align with applicable international standards and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure consistent safety practices across international operations.
• Establish standardized systems for reporting safety incidents and compliance information.
• Analyze safety data from different regions to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across international operations.
• Monitor compliance with local and international safety regulations.
• Encourage the sharing of safety best practices across different sites and regions.

Risk Management and Compliance

• Lead workplace risk assessment and risk management activities.
• Identify potential safety hazards and develop appropriate control measures.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental management requirements.
• Monitor the effectiveness of safety controls and recommend corrective actions.
• Support management in identifying and managing operational safety risks.
• Ensure safety programs meet legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements.

Stakeholder Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, external stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and other relevant organizations.
• Provide timely safety guidance and support to management and operational teams.
• Address critical safety matters effectively while maintaining high standards of professional ethics.
• Communicate important safety updates, initiatives, and regulatory changes to relevant stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement and Change Management

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives for safety systems, processes, and practices.
• Monitor global safety developments and identify opportunities to improve organizational safety performance.
• Lead change management initiatives related to safety policies, procedures, and systems.
• Encourage employees to provide feedback and suggestions for improving workplace safety.
• Promote a proactive approach to identifying and controlling workplace risks.

Reporting and Performance Monitoring

• Prepare accurate and timely safety reports in accordance with organizational requirements.
• Monitor safety performance indicators and departmental KPIs.
• Review safety audit results, incident statistics, compliance findings, and corrective actions.
• Provide senior management with relevant safety performance information and recommendations.

Qualifications

Candidates applying for the Director – Safety job in Dubai should have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, HSSE, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline.
• Professional certification or diploma in Safety Management.
• Lead Auditor certification or equivalent qualification.
