Key Responsibilities
Chassis Design & Product Development
- Lead end-to-end chassis engineering activities from concept development through production launch.
- Design and develop chassis structures, frames, brackets, mounting systems, suspension components, and related assemblies.
- Ensure designs meet functional, structural, durability, and performance requirements.
- Support vehicle development programs by delivering engineering solutions aligned with project timelines and business objectives.
CAD Design & Engineering Documentation
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Manage engineering documentation, design records, and configuration control processes.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of released engineering data for internal teams and suppliers.
- Support product lifecycle management and engineering change documentation.
Design Validation & Engineering Analysis
- Conduct engineering evaluations, tolerance studies, and design reviews to validate design integrity.
- Collaborate with CAE and simulation teams to assess structural performance, durability, and vehicle dynamics.
- Utilize engineering data, testing results, and analysis tools to optimize chassis performance.
- Ensure all technical requirements are verified and validated throughout development.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Lead Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) activities to identify and mitigate potential design risks.
- Support root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for engineering issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, cost optimization, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Evaluate design alternatives and recommend improvements based on engineering best practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with manufacturing, quality, procurement, testing, and program management teams throughout the development process.
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure component feasibility, quality standards, and manufacturing readiness.
- Facilitate technical reviews and provide engineering guidance to project stakeholders.
- Support prototype builds, validation activities, and production launch readiness.
Compliance & Regulatory Standards
- Ensure chassis designs comply with applicable safety regulations, engineering standards, and industry requirements.
- Verify compliance with durability, structural integrity, and vehicle performance targets.
- Maintain complete technical documentation and validation records throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Support internal audits, design reviews, and quality assurance processes.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong expertise in chassis engineering, vehicle systems design, and structural development.
- Advanced proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA, Creo, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with CAE tools, engineering simulations, and performance analysis methodologies.
- In-depth understanding of vehicle dynamics, suspension systems, and structural load requirements.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to lead technical reviews and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Master’s Degree is considered an advantage.
- Professional engineering certifications are beneficial but not mandatory.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of experience in chassis design and vehicle engineering within automotive OEM, commercial vehicle, electric vehicle, or Tier-1 supplier environments.
- Proven experience managing chassis development activities across multiple product development phases.
- Demonstrated expertise in CAD design, CAE simulation, tolerance analysis, and engineering change management.
- Experience supporting prototype development, testing, validation, and production launch activities.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and supplier development practices.
