Job Overview

NOMAC is seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to supervise and manage electrical maintenance activities at power generation and water desalination plants in Saudi Arabia. The role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, planned outages, and electrical system reliability to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted plant operations.

The successful candidate will oversee electrical maintenance teams, coordinate maintenance schedules, investigate equipment failures, manage spare parts requirements, and ensure compliance with health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) standards. Candidates should have a strong background in electrical engineering and substantial experience in power generation or water desalination facilities.

Key Responsibilities of an Electrical Maintenance Engineer

1. Electrical Maintenance Management

  • Supervise preventive and corrective maintenance activities for electrical equipment across the plant.
  • Ensure the reliability, availability, and efficient performance of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Coordinate equipment inspections, repairs, overhauling activities, and planned maintenance schedules.
  • Respond promptly to emergency electrical breakdowns and implement corrective actions to minimize plant downtime.
  • Promote condition-based and predictive maintenance practices to improve equipment reliability.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting to prevent recurring equipment failures.

2. Team Supervision and People Management

  • Supervise electrical maintenance engineers, supervisors, and technicians to achieve operational targets.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities and ensure work is completed according to approved procedures and schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to team members.
  • Monitor team performance and ensure compliance with company policies, maintenance standards, and safety requirements.

3. Electrical Troubleshooting and Technical Support

  • Diagnose electrical equipment faults and determine suitable repair or replacement solutions.
  • Investigate critical equipment failures and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
  • Analyze maintenance records and equipment performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct engineering assessments to improve electrical system efficiency, reliability, and operational performance.
  • Prepare technical specifications, feasibility studies, cost estimates, and material requirements for electrical equipment installations, repairs, and modifications.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, EPC contractors, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) on technical matters.

4. Planned Outage and Shutdown Management

  • Plan and coordinate annual maintenance outages for critical electrical equipment.
  • Forecast manpower, tools, materials, and spare parts required for outage execution.
  • Ensure outage activities follow OEM recommendations, approved maintenance procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Monitor outage progress to achieve established safety, scope, cost, and schedule targets.
  • Provide technical support during equipment overhauls, inspections, testing, and recommissioning.

5. Maintenance Planning and SAP Management

  • Maintain accurate electrical maintenance records and documentation in SAP.
  • Prepare and review maintenance notifications, work orders, schedules, and breakdown reports.
  • Monitor maintenance history, labour utilization, repair methods, and spare parts consumption.
  • Ensure effective implementation of computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) processes.
  • Support monthly and annual maintenance planning to improve resource utilization and plant performance.

6. Spare Parts and Material Management

  • Prepare monthly and annual forecasts for electrical equipment, spare parts, tools, and maintenance materials.
  • Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure the timely availability of essential components.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of electrical equipment and materials.
  • Recommend suitable equipment, replacement parts, and materials in line with technical specifications and budget requirements.
  • Support cost-effective maintenance planning while maintaining plant reliability and safety standards.

7. Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE)

  • Ensure all electrical maintenance activities comply with company HSSE policies and applicable safety requirements.
  • Enforce permit-to-work procedures, electrical isolation requirements, and other approved safety controls.
  • Ensure employees and contractors use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Coordinate with the HSE department to communicate safety procedures and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and environmental responsibility across maintenance operations.

8. Continuous Improvement and Coordination

  • Identify opportunities to improve electrical maintenance processes, equipment performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with operations, engineering, procurement, HSE, and maintenance teams.
  • Coordinate with external contractors, equipment suppliers, EPC companies, and OEM representatives.
  • Support engineering modifications, maintenance improvement projects, and reliability initiatives.
  • Follow company policies, standard operating procedures, and technical guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent relevant qualification.

Required Professional Experience

  • 8–10 years of experience in electrical maintenance.
  • Experience in power generation plants and/or water desalination facilities.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or team leadership position.
  • Experience in preventive, corrective, predictive, and condition-based maintenance.
  • Practical experience in planning and executing maintenance outages for critical electrical equipment.
  • Experience in electrical equipment troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering and industrial electrical maintenance.
  • Understanding of power generation and water desalination plant operations.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Experience with SAP maintenance modules and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
