Job Overview
The Mechanical Technician – Steam & Gas is responsible for carrying out the installation, dismantling, maintenance, inspection, alignment, and repair of heavy rotating equipment used in power generation facilities.
The role focuses primarily on steam turbines, gas turbines, generators, pumps, motors, fans, and other rotating machinery. The technician will work closely with supervisors, outage management teams, field service engineers, HSE personnel, operations teams, plant crews, and contractors to complete maintenance activities safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, dismantling, inspection, maintenance, overhaul, and repair activities on heavy rotating machinery.
- Work on steam turbines, gas turbines, generators, pumps, motors, fans, and related industrial equipment.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, technical documents, and equipment manuals to determine appropriate work procedures.
- Safely dismantle and assemble machinery using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and hydraulic equipment.
- Handle and move machinery, components, and equipment using cranes, hoists, chain falls, and other approved lifting equipment.
- Perform precision alignment of machinery using squares, micrometers, dial indicators, laser alignment systems, and other specialized equipment.
- Inspect machine components using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, rulers, and other inspection tools.
- Support planned maintenance, shutdown, outage, overhaul, and equipment repair activities.
- Identify equipment conditions and report defects, abnormalities, or maintenance requirements to supervisors.
- Maintain proper control and accountability of tools, equipment, spare parts, and work materials.
- Follow approved maintenance procedures, work instructions, quality requirements, and site safety standards.
- Comply with applicable HSSE, legal, environmental, and quality requirements while performing work.
- Coordinate closely with Outage Managers, Field Service Engineers, Supervisors, Maintenance teams, and Operations personnel.
- Work effectively with plant crews, contractors, and other site personnel.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Perform additional technical and maintenance duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Maintenance, or a related technical discipline.
- A qualification or specialization in Gas Turbine Systems is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in maintaining, dismantling, installing, or repairing industrial machinery and service equipment.
- Experience with rotating equipment such as pumps, motors, fans, generators, steam turbines, and gas turbines.
- Practical experience using mechanical maintenance and precision measurement tools.
- Knowledge of machinery alignment techniques and related tooling.
- Good understanding of power plant operations, mechanical maintenance practices, equipment, and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable HSSE, quality, legal, and site requirements.
- Familiarity with modern maintenance technologies and technical innovations.
- Ability to understand technical drawings and equipment documentation.
- Willingness to travel and work at international project sites.
- Willingness to work at remote or hardship locations and follow shift-based work schedules.
