Al-Futtaim Automotive is looking for an experienced Customs Broker to support logistics and customs clearance operations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The position is responsible for managing customs clearance activities for finished vehicles, automotive spare parts, and related air and sea freight shipments.
The Customs Broker will coordinate with customs authorities, shipping lines, freight forwarders, transport companies, and internal teams to ensure shipments are cleared and delivered within agreed timelines. The role requires strong knowledge of Saudi customs regulations, HS code classification, import and export procedures, duty and tax calculations, and customs documentation.
The successful candidate should be organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple customer shipments while meeting established SLAs and KPIs.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Clearance Operations
- Manage customs clearance jobs for assigned customers and ensure all activities are completed within agreed timelines.
- Handle import and export customs clearance for air and sea freight shipments.
- Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, transporters, and relevant authorities.
- Review shipment documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness before customs processing.
- Monitor clearance status and resolve issues that could delay shipment release.
- Coordinate the movement and delivery of cleared shipments to the required destination.
Customs Documentation and Compliance
- Verify original shipping documents and ensure all required paperwork is available for customs clearance.
- Check and apply the correct HS Codes and GCC tariff classifications.
- Calculate applicable customs duties, taxes, and other charges accurately.
- Prepare and process customs declarations through the relevant systems.
- Ensure customs transactions comply with Saudi regulations and applicable authority requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of customs documents and clearance activities.
VCC and Customs Issue Resolution
- Manage Vehicle Clearance Certificate (VCC) corrections and related customs requirements.
- Coordinate with customs authorities to resolve VCC discrepancies and documentation issues.
- Raise and follow up on tickets for time-sensitive customs corrections.
- Monitor critical cases and take proactive action to prevent clearance delays.
- Communicate updates to relevant internal teams and customers.
Job Registration and System Management
- Register customs jobs accurately and maintain updated shipment information.
- Update shipment and customs details in EDI CargoWise or equivalent logistics systems.
- Maintain electronic customs and shipment documentation.
- Ensure all job records contain accurate and complete information.
- Process invoices and related documentation within required timelines.
- Follow up on outstanding transactions to minimize billing delays and avoid unnecessary credit notes.
Customer and Account Support
- Manage customs clearance activities for allocated customer accounts.
- Respond promptly to customer queries regarding shipment status and expected clearance timelines.
- Provide accurate updates regarding customs documentation, duties, taxes, and delivery schedules.
- Support additional customer accounts and operational activities when required.
- Work closely with the Team Leader and Operations Manager on priority shipments and operational requirements.
Reporting and Performance
- Prepare daily reports and operational dashboards as requested.
- Maintain accurate records of customs clearance activities and shipment performance.
- Monitor agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Identify delays, recurring issues, and operational risks and escalate them appropriately.
- Ensure timely invoicing and accurate completion of customs jobs.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Saudi Customs regulations and procedures.
- Good understanding of GCC tariff classifications and HS Codes.
- Knowledge of import and export customs clearance processes.
- Understanding of customs documentation, duty calculations, and tax requirements.
- Experience with logistics, freight forwarding, and shipment management systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with SAP, ERP, CargoWise, or similar logistics platforms.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments and customer requirements simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work flexible hours when operational requirements demand it.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Customs, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
Experience Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, logistics, or a similar role.
- Practical experience handling customs clearance operations in Saudi Arabia is preferred.
- Experience with automotive shipments, finished vehicles, spare parts, or related logistics operations is an advantage.
- Experience managing customer accounts and meeting operational SLAs and KPIs is preferred.
Professional Requirements
- Valid Saudi Customs Broker License or relevant accreditation from the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA).
- Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken.
- Good knowledge of Saudi customs procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with customs authorities and logistics partners.
