About the Role
The Sales & Operations Manager will work closely with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, engineering teams, and project stakeholders to ensure fire protection projects are delivered according to approved specifications, applicable standards, budgets, schedules, and quality requirements.
The position requires a combination of commercial knowledge, technical understanding, leadership skills, and practical experience in fire fighting or fire protection projects.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Business Development
- Develop and implement sales strategies for fire fighting systems, fire protection solutions, and associated services.
- Identify potential business opportunities with developers, contractors, consultants, facility owners, government organisations, and other clients.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Manage sales opportunities and support the achievement of revenue and profitability targets.
- Present technical solutions and value-engineering options to clients and other stakeholders.
- Participate in commercial negotiations and support contract finalisation.
Tendering and Proposals
- Review project enquiries, tenders, drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, quantities, and scope requirements.
- Coordinate the preparation of technical and commercial proposals, quotations, estimates, and project budgets.
- Work with estimation, design, procurement, engineering, and project teams to prepare accurate submissions.
- Review commercial terms and technical requirements before proposal submission.
Fire Protection Project Management
Manage awarded projects through the complete delivery cycle, including planning, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, approvals, and handover.
The role may involve projects covering:
- Fire pumps
- Automatic sprinkler systems
- Fire hydrants
- Hose reels
- Wet and dry risers
- Water storage tanks
- Standpipe systems
- Fire suppression systems
- Other associated fire protection equipment
The manager will monitor project schedules, manpower, procurement activities, budgets, resources, and overall commercial performance.
Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with engineering and project teams to ensure work follows approved designs and specifications.
- Review shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, technical submittals, method statements, test plans, and related documentation.
- Coordinate with other building-services disciplines to minimise technical conflicts and project delays.
- Help resolve technical, commercial, and site-related issues during project execution.
- Ensure equipment and installations comply with relevant project specifications, manufacturer requirements, fire codes, and applicable standards.
Client and Stakeholder Management
Maintain effective communication with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
The role includes participation in tender discussions, project coordination meetings, progress reviews, inspections, and site meetings.
Testing, Commissioning and Handover
Coordinate testing and commissioning activities and assist with required inspections, approvals, demonstrations, and final project handover.
Ensure project close-out documentation is properly maintained, including approvals, inspection records, certificates, warranties, manuals, as-built drawings, and other handover documents.
Commercial and Operational Management
- Monitor project variations, claims, purchase orders, payments, and subcontractor performance.
- Track project costs and profitability.
- Identify potential commercial or operational risks and implement appropriate corrective measures.
- Support the resolution of defects, non-conformances, outstanding queries, and snagging items.
- Prepare sales, operational, revenue, progress, forecast, and management reports.
Team Leadership
Lead and coordinate personnel involved in sales, estimation, engineering, and project delivery.
The position will also contribute to improving operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, project performance, sales growth, and overall profitability.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree, higher diploma, or relevant technical qualification in one of the following or a related discipline:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Fire Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Business Administration
- Related technical or commercial fields
Experience Requirements
Applicants should have relevant professional experience in sales, operations, project management, or business development within fire fighting, fire protection, MEP, or building-services industries.
Previous hands-on experience managing the sales and operational aspects of fire fighting or fire protection projects is particularly important.
Candidates should also have knowledge of tendering, estimation, contracts, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and project handover processes.
Technical Knowledge
The ideal candidate should understand major fire protection systems and equipment, including pumps, sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, risers, tanks, suppression systems, and associated equipment.
Applicants should be comfortable reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, quantities, hydraulic calculations, contracts, schedules, and other technical documents.
Knowledge of applicable fire codes, authority requirements, health and safety practices, international standards, and manufacturer specifications is also important.
