Key Responsibilities

Paint Process Development

  • Develop and maintain paint and surface finishing specifications for automotive components and vehicles.
  • Define production-ready coating processes covering surface preparation, pretreatment, primer application, topcoats, and curing operations.
  • Establish process parameters and quality standards to support efficient manufacturing.

Product Testing & Validation

  • Plan and execute paint trials in laboratory, pilot, and production environments.
  • Conduct validation studies to evaluate coating performance and process effectiveness.
  • Analyze test data and recommend improvements for production implementation.

Surface Treatment & Corrosion Protection

  • Develop surface preparation methods that enhance coating adhesion and durability.
  • Support corrosion prevention strategies to improve vehicle lifespan and reliability.
  • Ensure coating systems are compatible with manufacturing and assembly processes.

Engineering Collaboration

  • Work closely with product development, manufacturing, and quality teams.
  • Participate in design reviews to identify coating-related risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support product manufacturability and quality enhancement initiatives.

Quality Assurance & Inspection

  • Develop testing procedures for coating performance and appearance standards.
  • Monitor paint quality through inspections and validation activities.
  • Evaluate factors such as film thickness, adhesion, gloss levels, color consistency, and environmental durability.

Documentation & Standardization

  • Prepare process documentation, work instructions, inspection plans, and technical reports.
  • Support standardization of coating processes across multiple product lines.
  • Maintain records to ensure consistency and regulatory compliance.

Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Investigate paint defects, quality concerns, and production issues.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Support initiatives to improve productivity, reduce waste, and optimize coating performance.

Supplier Management

  • Assist in supplier qualification and material approval activities.
  • Review technical specifications and performance data for coating materials.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to improve product quality and process reliability.

Production Support

  • Support pilot production runs and manufacturing scale-up activities.
  • Ensure smooth transfer of new coating technologies into full production.
  • Provide technical assistance during production and process implementation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Additional certifications in coatings technology, corrosion engineering, or surface treatment are advantageous.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in automotive painting, coatings development, or surface finishing processes.
  • Experience within automotive manufacturers, vehicle assembly plants, or Tier-1 suppliers is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in process validation, paint testing, and industrialization projects.
