Role Overview:

The Plumbing Engineer plays a key leadership role, overseeing a team of Supervisors and drafters. Responsible for managing plumbing activities on one or more projects, the Plumbing Engineer ensures all internal and external plumbing tasks are completed in alignment with project goals. This includes coordinating with various stakeholders, managing resources, and ensuring timely execution and quality of work.


Responsibilities:

1. Project Management:

  • Design Validation & Technical Oversight: Review plumbing designs and technical calculations to ensure they meet project requirements.
  • Scope & Contract Review: Examine project scope, specifications, and tender documents to understand project requirements, identifying potential risks and opportunities for value engineering.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with contractors, consultants, clients, and internal teams to ensure project deliverables are met throughout the design, execution, and closeout phases.
  • Resource & Execution Planning: Collaborate with Junior Engineers and Supervisors to estimate material and labor needs, plan resources, and manage procurement and subcontractor engagement.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track site progress and productivity, address productivity gaps, and ensure work is executed efficiently and according to the schedule.
  • Installation & Construction Oversight: Ensure the quality and efficiency of installation and construction work, adhering to industry standards.
  • Plant & Equipment Management: Maximize the efficient use of available plant and equipment.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Coordinate with local authorities as required to ensure compliance with local regulations.

2. Cost Management:

  • Variation & Claims Management: Work with the Quantity Surveyor (QS) to track variations and delays, ensuring claims are made effectively to protect project margins.
  • Value Engineering: Identify and propose value engineering opportunities that can improve design and project costs while benefiting all stakeholders.

3. Engineering:

  • Shop Drawings & Submittals: Lead the preparation and approval of shop drawings with the drafting team, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Material & Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with engineers and procurement teams to finalize vendor selections and material approvals, ensuring timely deliveries and compliance with specifications.
  • Technical Problem Resolution: Address complex technical challenges to ensure successful completion of plumbing design and construction.
  • Coordination with Other Trades: Ensure the verification of equipment loads with other trades, specifically Electrical, and report any changes to the team.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with current regulations and standards, liaising with authorities as required.

4. Quality & Standards:

  • Internal Standards Compliance: Enforce engineering and construction standards, ensuring consistency and quality across all phases of the project.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Maintain and share lessons learned within the team to enhance project execution and keep up with industry trends.
  • Method Statement Development: Prepare detailed method statements for activities, ensuring they align with project specifications.
  • Project Documentation: Oversee the creation and submission of project closeout documentation.

5. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):

  • HSE Compliance: Ensure all personnel (company and subcontractors) comply with company HSE policies.
  • Incident Reporting: Report injuries and incidents promptly, supporting investigations when necessary.
  • Safety & Environmental Initiatives: Actively engage in safety and environmental efforts on-site.
  • JSA Completion: Ensure Job Safety Analysis (JSA) are completed and reviewed as required.

Required Skills:

  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of plumbing engineering design, standards, and regulations.
  • Project Management Skills: Familiarity with project planning, execution, and cost management techniques.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, and Primavera.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree in Plumbing Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in MEP contracting, with at least 3 years of experience in the UAE market.
